Stepping out from behind the Jeffrey Jerusalem moniker, Jeffrey Brodsky delivers a new album unlike anything we've heard from him. Jonah is the product of a commissioned piece for the DEEP//LEAP MICROCINEMA's Palimpsests show featuring improvisations on and reinterpretations of the music of Jonah Adels—Brodsky's close collaborator. Jonah moves between moments of breathy bliss and stuttering chaos, acoustic ambiance and digital terror. Brodsky's work on this recording is a study in hauntology, a reconfiguration of lost soundtracks, hidden melodies, and buried emotions--that emerge as a sort of New Age aesthetic for 2010. A rewarding listen for a rainy day.
